Barrier Cable

The use of specialty high strength prestressing steel in parking garages as barrier cable has become increasingly popular across the U.S. market. Suncoast supplies 1/2", 7-wire galvanized prestressed strand to serve that purpose. Standard anchorages for "through column" installations as well as specialty anchorages for non-typical jobsite conditions are designed and fabricated by trained Suncoast professionals.

By utilizing prestressed concrete (PC) strand in parking garage barrier applications, automobile and pedestrian barriers can be more economically built and more architecturally appealing. Barrier cables are typically placed 4 inches on center to a height of 3 feet 6 inches, depending on the applicable building codes. PC strand barrier cable is placed anywhere there is a possibility of a car or person falling over the edge, such as on the side of ramps and along the structure's perimeter. The cost of PC strand barrier cable is less than concrete barrier walls, and many architects prefer barrier cable to  a concrete barrier wall due to it's visual appeal. Barrier cable also eliminates blind spots which are caused by solid barrier systems such as concrete walls, as approaching vehicles or pedestrians can be seen easily through barrier cable assemblies.
