Slab on Ground

Post-tensioning has become the concrete reinforcing system of choice nationwide for a number of reasons. The superior performance that prestressed concrete provides, combined with the economies derived from it, make it the most popular reinforcing system used in the construction of ground-supported structures.

Better reinforcement means that the slab member can be thinner, and less costly. Tangentially, control joints are either eliminated, or greatly reduced. As soils expand and contract, traditionally reinforced foundations can deform, which often results in cracking and failure. Post-tensioned slabs are significantly more resistant to these forces, as well as to slab curling.

Incredibly, this superior technology makes for quicker installation and greater savings overall.

In 2004, Suncoast provided post-tensioning materials to more than 100,000 single-family homes across the US.

Any ground-supported slab can be a post-tensioned slab. Some examples of these are sports courts, industrial floors, and shopping centers.
