Unbonded Post-Tensioning

Suncoast Post-Tension is the largest supplier of fabricated unbonded post-tensioning materials and services in the United States. Unbonded post-tensioning is used in a variety of residential and commercial cast-in-place concrete building structures. Any floor system, whether in an elevated building or a ground supported foundation, can utilize a post-tensioned reinforcing system; from single family residences to industrial flooring, apartment buildings to sports courts, high rises to parking garages, and everything else in between.

An unbonded post-tensioning tendon is made up of two main components; the prestressing steel strand and the anchorages that are placed at the ends of the tendon. The prestressing steel strand is composed of 7 wires, 1 center "king" wire, and 6 other smaller diameter wires in a helical twist around it, and has a tensile strength of 270,000 psi, whereas a traditional piece of reinforcing steel (rebar) has only 60,000 psi of tensile strength. The strand is covered with a special p-t coating that reduces friction when the tendon is stressed and provides primary corrosion protection for the steel. This coated strand is then covered with an extruded continuous high-density polyethylene sheathing that encases the p-t coating material and acts as a secondary corrosion protection layer for the steel. Once the concrete is placed, the steel is free to move inside of the sheathing, as the concrete bonds only to the sheathing and not to the steel. The anchorage system is a ductile steel cast anchor and heat-treated machined steel wedge. The wedge fits inside of a conical hole in the anchor casting. Since the heat-treated machined steel wedge is harder than the prestressing steel, the teeth of the wedge grips the strand forming a permanent mechanical connection of the anchorage to the strand. Each and every tendon we deliver is fabricated to meet your project's specific job requirements.
